B-25 Recovered in Lake Greenwood SC USA

I took these photo’s of the recovery of a B-25 Mitchell in the 1980’s, aircraft in pretty good condition and is now on display at Owens Field in Columbia, South Carolina USA. Crashed on June 6th 1944 on a training flight , the crewed were rescued and I meet the pilot who came back to see his aircraft ! He later flew B-25’s in combat in the CIB !

This took place last year and reports that there are several more WWII wrecks in Lake Murrary, near Columbia, South Carolina USA were this show was filmed. I believe the aircraft was taken to a museum in Alabama to be restored to static display. The program did locate one of the crew members and did recover some nice artifacts. In 1985 there was also another B-25 pulled in rather good condition from a lake in Greenwood, South Carolina. The plane was restored and is one display in Columbia , SC. Many US Army Air Bases were in operation in South Carolina during the war and B-25’s were among the many types of aircraft based at these training facilities ! I was present during the one in the early 80’s and will scan some photos here if I can find them. That plane crashed into the lake on all days…………… June 6th 1944 ! The crew were saved and the pilot sent to the CBI for his time in a B-25 !!!!

Thanks !
