Belgian Meteor on a pole

Hi all,

(yes, I know. I wasn’t at Shoreham)

But my wife and I spent two great days in the beautiful Ardennes. First in Bastogne and today in Dinant. When we took the cablecar up to the Dinant Citadelle that overlooks the town, I was surprised to see a Belgian Meteor VIII with serial EG162 on the fin. it looked in dreadful condition and the wooden inletfairings had all but rotten away and the ailerons were holed with corrosion.

But it was a pleasant find though.

Any further info (we didn’t bring our camera up unfortunately)?

Cheers

Cees

Sad indeed, to see such a beautiful jet (it once was) outside rotting away 🙁 🙁

It’s a shame you didn’t go down the N.97, South of Florennes – there’s a cracking F.84 on a pole, in the middle of a roundabout (going East) in excellent condition (considering it’s outdoors 24/7).

Entirely agree with you – how beautiful the Ardennes is – & how many suprises it throws up (especially for the W.W.II A.F.V. enthusiast), Panthers, King Tiger, M.26, M.10’s etc.
