I am trying to download photos that are too large for the Flypast site.
These are pics that I took last week of the Racer#22 “Merlin’s Magic”The explosion happened as the oxygen system was being refilled.. oh well, here goes nothing.

Destefani has a Merlin on a stand in his shop that looks like 2 V6’s placed close together….

And I weep when my car goes in for repair !!! a few k’s worth there,
bet they think why do I bother !
Never mate!
To be able to play with these engineering masterpieces is an honour.
Most of us are happy to go without a few luxuries to continue doing it!

It must be contagious, exactly the same happened to us yesterday, except it`s a Griffon.
We are all completely gutted, especially Bill richards, the owner, but we WILL repair it and it will be back in action next year.
I am more concerned that we find the cause, must be an exceptional fault as the engine was in good condition. 😡

I have never seen a Merlin cut itself in half like that. We heard the explosion while out on the Pylons, looked towards the pits and as we couldnt see smoke thought nothing more of it.
Such a great group of people too.

As I put in the Hoover thread, this team had so much sad luck this week…the Merlin was ‘cut in half’ by the flailing con rod (after the piston went AWOL).
