According to Ceefax, page 167, this morning, a Defiant is currently being excavated in Rutland, anyone have any more info on this.

Not sure, but I have seen a report in the PRO (sorry….NA!) relating to the break up and crash of a Defiant in, I think, that area. Diagrams and photos in the file indicated the crash was caused by “faulty” repairs to battle damage sustained to the airframe during 1940. I only briefly scanned the file as I was looking for something else, but have a feeling it may be this incident? Worth a check! Andy Saunders

And how stupid is that? Let the media find out before the dig occurs. A well proven method of getting souvenier hunters and lots of spectators.
Best policy is either tell them after the dig or not at all.
Defiant Mk.I N1794, lost wing covering and crashed 4/3/41. Coded DZ-B 151 Sqn.
