Lee and Abbies first Flight

Thursday September 14th 2006 was a very important date for two 8 year old children, my son Lee & daughter Abbie.

Dave Puleston introduced them to the joys of flying by taking them for a flight around the local Duxford area in a most beautiful Piper Cub.

I have to pass on my thanks to the owner of the aeroplane, Mr Robin Roberts

His aeroplane is painted as a Piper L4-J Grasshopper of the 456th Artillery Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, the scheme was chosen because his father, Bill Roberts, who is unfortunately no longer with us flew the original 57 – H during the Second World War.

The civil registration is G-RRSR

Thank you again Dave for your kindness and thank you Robin for allowing Dave to fly your aeroplane with Lee & Abbie.

The memories of their first will last a life time and I think Lee is hooked.

The photo’s aren’t that good I needed Darren to record the event really.

As I say to people who ask why I love aircraft; Most people have flown, but few have been FLYING!

What a lovely treat for them.

Steve.

Well Done, My first time at the controls was a Piper Cub from Old Warden when I was 9, I still have vivid memories of that, real flying!

Great Photos, (lucky so & so’s !!!) .

Get ’em enrolled in their local Air Cadet Squadron, when they’re teenagers & within six months, they’ll be flying at the controls of some of the R.A.F.’s ‘Grob Tutors’ like my son does over various parts of North Camb’s.
He loves it to bit’s.

Abbie obviously crossed her fingers praying that the weather wouldn’t change and stop her flying. Great to see youngsters getting the experience which hopefully leads to them becoming pilots later on.

Do I see little Abbie’s fingers crossed there? (pic 1). Great atmospheric pics capturing such a wonderful event.

Your first flight is an experience that you will never forget and to have it in an historic aeroplane from an historic airfield is a bonus!

Night flying in a Cub, thats one to remember!

That L-4 looks as though it is a real beaut. Cubs are great for inexperienced passengers, because it all happens so gently, and you can see, and so understand what is happening.
