At a rather gloomy Duxford this afternoon HAC’s newly arrived Hawker Nimrod II G-BURZ/K3661 was noted engine running at the far western end of the airfield.

Kestrels?
There’s also a genuine working Kestrel in the Belgian Fury replica (or there was).
The Kestrel in the RAAF Museum’s Hawker Demon (A1-8) was run in a modern RAAF static rig before instillation in the rebuilt and restored airframe; so it’s not airworthy, and hasn’t run for some time, but it’s complete, real and it did ‘go’ after rebuild. I’ve seen pics showing the blue flames… 🙂
The only Navalised Fury I know of has a Centaurus up front (or American iron) the Hawker Nimrod being based on another design, the Hawker ‘Norn’ NOT as is often incorrectly assumed, the Fury (biplane). Yup, I’ve just been revising my Hawkers!

…and this Nimrod I.

Look, I have only just got up, not even had a coffee, so it is too early for me to be untertaking research into nomenclature of 1930’s naval fighters.
Besides, you knew what I meant 🙂
