MAM Boulton Paul P111 makeover……..

After log hard days working on other airframes on the museums grounds, it was decided that the B.P. P111 was due a makeover to help maintain the airframe in it’s current outside position, so members have been grafting away over the last couple of weeks to bring her up to scratch.

Here are some pictures I took yesturday. Sorry about the quality but I don’t have a very good camera at the moment. 😮

Shame i really like the white, but the yellow on her before had become faded, so maybe we shall see what it looks like then.

Has she been repainted or is she not going to be ?

Yes.

When the fin tip is completed and fitted the ‘frame will be painted yellow.

Sorry to resurect this thread but i have just read the newest edition of flypast which has a story about the repaint of this but in the text it says that she will soon be repainted yellow is this true ?

As i prefer the white scheme even if she did not have it during the tests etc ?, also they are going to fit a new section to the fin so it is pointy.

Has she been repainted or is she not going to be ?

[QUOTE=LesB]But in the end they made garage doors!
Funnily enough , so did Westlands for a time.

There was also the Boulton Paul P113.

Overly complex bit of kit but the Vulcan had ten of them.

Boulton – Paul also built a summerhouse which could rotate with the sun. Undoubtedly inspired by or the inspiration for the Defiant!

Hmmm. Well, it’s a Boulton Paul aircraft, and they originally made wooden sheds, so I think a fine ‘wood’ effect with thick brown paint and serrated scraper board would be appropriate.

But in the end they made garage doors! The research for these is evident in the ‘D’ door up-lock linkage shown here.

Mmmm . . . the BP111A was obviously a flying test-bed to test garage door linkages in high wind speeds . . . . :diablo:

Time for my pills.

Have some of mine . . .

Sorry James, but it’s a bit gloomy in that hangar and I wasn’t aware the Supermarine 535 was there, neither the Ultra Light. Both departed in the mid 60s.

Never mind , I’m sure somebody will give you the serials one day

Thanks Albert,
Glad you nailed the photog, but the rest’s a poor effort… 😀 (But you did better than me.) If Ken’s not happy, I’ll take the pic down, but I coulsdn’t resist.

It’s not the Saro SRA-1, but is the 535 (Thanks David). It’s not the Jet Gyrodyne, and I’d presume Roger’s right on that being the Fairey ultra light.

I’m not sure what Phantom’s referring to?

Cheers

Hi Dave,
Sorry, only being pedantic to make a point as I knew you actually must have known the beast in question in order to have delivered the information so correctly.
Now -what happened to the 545 !!!

Spot on 25 Degrees – getting late in the night is my excuse but I was refering to the same machine. From memory the old bit saved was the canopy. A FlyPast in late 1982 detailed in the preservation news the migration of items to Midland.

No, thats too gay for such a fine aeroplane. Farrari Red with black go faster stripes down the side was what I was thinking.

We at the museum have come to the conclusion the the B.P. P111 looks great in white, so she’s staying that way…… :dev2:

Pink would be popular with the girls…

What a handsome young person. 😉

The 535 was an early Swift variant. What was at Cranfield , and is in the picture, was the Supermarine 545,

Oops. 😮 My iggorance was already stated; Supermarines lost the plot IMHO after the Walrus. 😀

The 535 was an early Swift variant. What was at Cranfield , and is in the picture, was the Supermarine 545, a supersonic development and a very different aeroplane. In addition to the Ultra Light there were also a lot of bits of the Rotodyne in the late 60’s. ( the Saro Jet Boat was of course long located at Staverton by this time -minus its Beryls)
The enclosed was taken around ’69 and slightly displaced from the other shot, but including the BP’s fin (that’s me in the middle:)).
