Ahh yes the little Trabant I wish the engine on my mondeo was as easy the clutch would have been a lot easier.

The Robbie Coltraine TV show was ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’. One show did a piece where he visited a bloke in Germany who restored DB605s.

Did anyone see the Chris Barrie series ‘Massive Machines’? One programme featured a super guppy IIRC it was the one at Bournemouth? I may be wrong though but they opened it up for the series.

Fluffy meets Robbie at Duxford where part of the episode about the supercharger was filmed.The bloke in Germany I believe was Sigi Knoll he helped us out with spares for our DB motor.

I did, indeed, have a spot on one of those programmes and the best thing about it was the wonderful production assistant who was far too beautiful and was professional and interesting and way out of my league.

I talked about Bleriots whilst trying not to sweat (43 degree heat at Le Bourget that day) and then had a great trip home with Sid the Director and Luka the Production Assistant drinking beer and have a good laugh. She was not only beautiful but could also drink beer, have a good laugh and make very inexperienced interviewees feel more confident. Wherever she is I wish her well.

The Viscount was at Skysport. Tim Moore showed them around and took great delight in showing off original Air France seat back tables! It may have been camera angles but looked like it was the forward fuselage only

The Classic Aircraft series was a very good programme with some interesting subject matter. There was a starring role in the programme on reconnaisance aircraft that featured heavily the founder member and life president of the Rearwin Cloudstar Owners Club of GB (or is it the big red beaver appreciation society).

There was some lovely footage in these programmes, I remember in particular film of PR Spits that sticks in the mind and I believe John Dibbs did some of the camera work, with interesting stories from veterans and pilots.
The same production company (Uden I think) did a whole series of Classic…, with cars, trains, trucks and even tractors.

Robbie Coltrane did a series at around the same time called Coltranes, Planes and Automobiles (can you see what they did there!) which was also good, highlight was programme on supercharging which compared Spit IX and M109.

Think maybe I watch too much TV!

Was’nt the Vulcan and 707 parts filmed at Southend?

Going on to BBC2’s Airshow Programme, these was an episode when the Swordifsh flew in formation with Sea Harrier, filmed from a Sea King on the Saturday before the Southend Airshow need to check the date but it must have been 2000ish,

I was at the airport working on the jet, when they were filming the take off luckly I had my camcorder with me but did anyone recorde the programme?

Some years back, I remember a series shown on Channel four abouut classic aeroplanes. It was narrated by the late great John Peel. One I remember in particular was about the Viscount. I remember they interviewed a bloke who had a Viscount cockpit in his garden. Anyone else a- remember what the series was called, b-know what Viscount it was or c-what ever happened to it?

I think the viscount you are refering to is the one at Skysport. The ex-Perth one as mentioned above.
It was still there when I flew over their strip last year…

Its a bit confusing these days…there are that many ” classic” aircraft series…John Peel’s was the best but now we have one narrated by Harry Enfield, the older one by Robbie Coltrane…

That was quite a good series. I taped a lot of those programmes at the time but would have to search them out to see if I still have them.

The Viscount was the one that had been at Perth, I think – F-BGNR, ex Air Inter and Air France.
