Bomber Command Memorial – Lincoln

A short piece on the unveiling on the Bomber Command memorial in Lincoln Cathedral was featured on the BBC national news this evening. It was “as usual” tainted by the reference to the Dresden raid of February 1945 a shame really as it was a reasonable piece for the BBC.

Indeed, not really necessary for an aircrew memorial, they were all good ppl doing there job. Not giving them a campaign medal was disgraceful as well.

So the 55,000 lost on sorties to Europe don’t deserve to be remembered in this way, because :-

they were all good ppl doing there job

Having a statue of Arthur Harris though is plain wrong and should be removed in my opinion.

Why ???? Wasn’t he just doing his job as well ????

If this link works:
http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=156153&command=displayContent&sourceNode=156136&contentPK=15205161&moduleName=InternalSearch&formname=sidebarsearch
you can see some of the comments from “bomber county” – my former home.
These men – most of them young, and some not even licensed to drive a car – were as far as I am concerned the bravest of the brave.
