On another forum, someone has said that the remains of a Spiteful are at Duxford…I’m assuming it’s probably the Fighter Collection Mk 22 that has been misidentified. Can anyone confirm that there isn’t a Spiteful there?

Far be it for anyone to suggest anything but…
how about the short lived post war desert scheme for 208 Sqn Spit XVIIIs
light slate grey/ dark earth upper surfaces and MSG undersurfaces with bright red/white/bright blue A type roundels, individual aircraft code letter in white ……”S” or “G” perhaps…. and a red or blue spinner according to the flight
certainly different – and a talking point

TFC Spitfires
The Mk22 PK624 is still in store. On site at Duxford, awaiting restoration.
The Mk18 SM969 is being paint stripped to inspect the skin work underneath.
The silver scheme on it was very thick and had a clear gloss coat over it as well which is proving very stubborn to remove.
I requested the scheme stripped off as the paint was so thick in some areas you could’nt even see the panel lines, screw heads or even inspection panels!
Thankfully several of the volunteer workforce are making excellent progress with the paint removal.
The aircraft is undergoing a 200hr inspection and recertification program.
Although it only flew some 10 hours since rebuild in the 1980s being in storage for so long requires some in depth inspection.
And before anyone asks the new paint scheme is still in the planning stage so nothing is set in stone yet.
It will turn a few heads though.
Cheers

Don’t suppose Mr Grey is doing just that with his M22? :diablo:
Anyone know its current wearabouts and status? Its not buried in Area 51 is it?
BTW: is the ‘new’ TFC XIII just getting a repaint or is it a bit more in depth than that?

That’s what I thought. But it’s amazing what does come out of the woodwork, so I thought I’d consult the oracle..
Extinct, but for how long. With the amazing Spitfire industry established the past two decades in the UK, it would only be a matter of time to build one from scratch. After all the prototype was a Mk XIV fuselage fitted with new wings.
Oh, if only.
