Archive Aircraft Sound Recordings

Dear All,

I collect audio recordings related to aviation. As with any hobby it goes in fits and starts. I’ve just picked up an LP off ebay called Aircraft Carrier SOund effects (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&item=270011217122) it was recorded onboard the USS Enterpise sometime in the early sixties. One of the tracks is the air to ground (and ground to air) transmissions of a photo Cruasader and his wingman. The wingman had lost his canopy, and was sitting on a partially activated ejection seat. The guy made it back OK. The record was published in 1963 by a company called Audio Fidelity ( i don’t think they are still in business). I’d be interested to know more about the background to this incident if it can be traced. If anyone’s interested or can help either pM me a message or drop me a line to oldsound@googlemail.com.

I’ve also just been given by another sound collector a recording of some tannoy annoucements from what was then London Airport in the fifties, and is now Heathrow. One annnoucement is for the “Pan American Airways Stratocruiser flight number 1 from New York, The President.”

Regards,

Chris in Scotland
