'Into the Wind' Bomber Command exhibition

For some time now I have been working on a project to record the thoughts and memories of Bomber Command veterans through Film and Photography. This project is ongoing and will no doubt take many years to collate the amount of material I need. I also hope that the interviews recorded will form the basis of an archive which may help enthusiasts and historians alike in future years.

For those of you who may be interested, an exhibition of material gathered/created so far will be on show at the Whisby Natural World Centre for several weeks commencing from the 7th September, this will be named ‘Into the Wind’. This will include original images I have been restoring as well as a photography display of disused airfields and also photographic portraits of veterans. In addition to this will be recorded interviews and a video installation so visitors can listen to the experiences of those whose portraits can be seen. The official opening day will be Saturday 9th September and I will be around during part of the day if anyone would like to chat about the project. This exhibition does not claim to be a comprehensive history of Bomber Command but a different approach perhaps to telling veterans stories and displaying some material which may not have been seen before or may be of interest.

I hope some of you in the area may be able to pop along and see the exhibition,

kind regards,

Steven

note, a couple of images from the exhibition can be seen, with a little searching, on my website: http://www.electricegg.co.uk in the photography gallery/documentary section.

great idea, Steve, more power to your elbow (I wish I’d done exactly the same with my grandparents). Aside : what are you filming your interviews on?

Interviews are currently been filmed on DV with proffesional visual/sound equipment but with a move to DV envisaged soon. Portraits are taken with Medium Format film. I wish I could film the interviews on film but its out of my league at the mo 🙂
