Sea Hawk WV838 – Update

Airborne again after 47 years!

The talented Mike Davey and his amazing A-Frame (patent pending I’m sure) was used last tuesday to finally lift WV838 off the wooden dollies that have been her home for the last few years – and place her on a trailer for next weekends aviation fair here in Liverpool.

Although a long way from finished (and yes, I know the cheat line is wrong on the nose, it was midnight when I painted it) at least she looks a LOT better than she did when I acquired her about 3 and a half years ago.

For anyone not familiar with this a/c, see http://wv838.com

I’ll post a few more pics from the fair after the weekend.

Roy.

I am sufficiently sad Stuart that I would take on the fuselage too! I can’t resist the chance to take a pile of crap (sorry, scrap) and make it shine again.

Next project (after decorating the kitchen) is my rather rusty ’84 Camaro. It doesn’t have wings but it certainly flies!

I was going to suggest you put a before and after shot, as I remember it how it was ; excellent job Roy. The rest of it was available if you want to do the fuselage as well!! Btw, the top secret technique used on the sqn crest for 599, involves laminating the printed graphic, then seperating the laminates and removing the paper ,the ink fuses to the top laminate and is ready for glueing on. This is a PM isn’t it ,oh fiddle now I’ve let the cat out the bag…

SUPERB fella!

Think Stuart did the same thing with the CATCS badge on our Vampire, when it was his – works very well…

Did you paint the badge on the nose yourself?

Heh, no I did not!

I got the badge as a jpeg from the FAA Museum (really nice people) and simply printed that onto transfre paper, applied a bucket-load of acrylic lacquer to it and popped it on. Looks good close up too.

Tada !!

The interior still has a long ways to go – I ran out of time though getting her at least _looking_ pretty for this weekends fair.

I will take more pics nearer the weekend. I’m still cleaning out all the dust from the cockpit, adding a few more instruments, the seat etc. I’ve still got the external markings to add as well.

After 3 and a half years, it’s wonderful to see my garage floor again 🙂
