This is a bit of a long shot but I remember seeing a picture from when I was younger but cannot remember the title or the artist. I have tried looking at online galleries but have never found it again. The picture was of a dissused airfield set in the fifties or sixties as there was an abandoned car, possibly an old ford Pop or Hillman Minx, but cannot remember clearly. In the foreground is all the usual junk that seems to collect at these places but in the background is a ghostly Bomber, possibly a Lancaster, with I think the ground crew working on it. I would like to see it again as it is the picture that started me wandering around old airfields trying to imagine the scene when they were operational. Not a very good description but maybe someone will recognise it from my vague recollections.
Thanks hopefully
Andy

Thanks for the reply Stuart
Just tried Aces High but could not find it and as you say I could not view the Galleries on Spitfire art so I will keep looking.
Thanks for the help

A bit like it but the airfield is disused and a more modern scene but the aircraft in the background has a ghostly appearance. Still a nice picture though.

I’ve seen this picture ,although only as a print, as I remember its a sumers day with the junk in bold and the Lanc and crew just visible , it was either in the Aces high gallery, or else Spitfire art (although the latter site has proved difficult to access recently.

Was it something like this?

Mine too. But at least the lack of rain is keeping the weeds down. 🙂

Sounds like my back garden at the moment…apart from the Lanc ghostly or otherwise!
