Hi there, I came across this old thread regarding this Auster – do you still have the frame? I’m attaching a picture I took of it at Thruxton on 19th May 1984, looking much the worse for wear after being damaged in the gale.

Ah right, I presumed it was a Mk V when I heard wartime example as they’re the most common! Cheers for the profile pics Martin, going to have a bit of fun and see which colour schemes I like. It’ll be a very long term restoration i’d imagine, probably won’t do much on it for a while and just try and get information and bits and pieces where I can, i’ll be doing stuff on the T6 and Beech at Brunty mostly

The J.1 was converted to look like a Taylorcraft Plus D hence the tubes added to the upper fuselage. She has done the rounds so as to speak and I last saw her in the ownership of Ken Fern – good luck!

I’ve got profiles of the J1. Will hunt them down and email off to you.

They’re both J1’s actually, haven’t heard of an AOP 6 at Brunty. By the way, anyone know of any side-profile views of an Auster J1 I could have? the outline ideally but could modify any image.

Change of Auster – i’ve been given the Auster frame hanging from the roof of the hangar (above the T6) as it’s in better condition. This one is G-AJPZ

Ah, so the other one is the anon’ AOP.6 then ?

Here’s a couple of pics of her, her frames look a bit different from other J1’s as one of her previous owners decided to change the canopy to make her look like a WW2 Mk V (despite the difference in engine, windscreen and various other bits)

Now that’s a challenge.

Good job you’re starting young. 😀

Ah cheers – unfortunately my garage is now full of stuff (old bed frames etc, plus i’ve set up my own little gym in there) so she’ll be staying at Bruntingthorpe, plus she won’t fit between the little path between the side of my house and the fence (for some reason our garage is at the bottom of the garden backing onto a narrow alleyway).

Might put something up to get her undercover and repaint the frames (If I cut up an old tent she should fit in there easily), might bike down to Brunty sometime this week and see what I can do. Anyone got a spare set of Auster wings? 😀

That’s mine? To be honest have no idea what reg mine is, apparently it’s reg was given to another Auster so mine may get the reg off one of Adrians other Austers. Apparently that way it only costs £40 to register it with the CAA, whereas to get a reg out of sequence is £200, which is a shame as I really wanted the currently available reg G-ROBL!

Edit – here’s some pictures of her/him/it (needs naming, i’ve got a couple of ideas though 😉 )

Did a quick google and apparently G-AJPZ was heavily damaged when she was overturned by a gale at Thruxton, will try and find out more

Cheers, Rob
