Help searching for WW2 RAF F/O KIA limited info.

Hi,

I am trying to find out more about an RAF flying officer killed in action in WW2 I believe he flew with bomber command. Limited information I know but I do have his surname which is rather unusual being TOWNLEY-UNDERHILL. I can’t find anyone by that name on the CWGC site where else could I look?

Any help most appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have been asked by a friend to try and find out more about her Grandfather FO Townley-Underhill he apparently flew with bomber command and was kia in ww2. That is all she knows.

After his death her grandmother remarried and as her new husband didn’t want a child her daughter (my friends mother) was adopted at the age of 7 (unbelievable!).

As a result her mother’s childhood was so traumatic she refuses to discuss the matter with her daughter. Therefore information about him is limited.

Jon

What is your source of this limited info.. You have a rank and an unusual name.. You must have more info, in what context and why do you think Bomber Command?

There are a few Townley’ and Underhills on the CWGC (no hypenhated ones thouh)

Hi,

Thank you very much for the time you took to give such a detailed reply. I will make some further enquiries re the info you have given.

Do you know if CWGC data includes those KIA with no known grave appearing on the Runnymead memorial?

Regards,

Jon
