Latest pics of Cosford Cold War

Apols – not great shots but shows the York in situ, vertical lightning…

shame Auster wingless, no idea what these missle parts are dumped in the R&D Hangar – look German to me….

Balliol in need of TLC!

Building striking but proportions make it difficult to appreciate quite how large it is –

Viscount appears to have had all its engines removed – for installation inside IIRC its not one of the scrappees?

It’s not getting them undercover I complain about, it’s what they’re in.

Thanks. I was always under the impression there was only one intact. Cool.

Is that the same York that was rolled out at Duxford very recently? Or are there two Avro Yorks extant?

I’m not adverse to museums hanging aircraft, when it’s donw well with a mezzanine floor you can get more angles on it than if it were on the floor. However seeing these planes stung up in the rafters like some kid’s balsa gliders stored in the garage, they look simply bloody stupid! It’s an interesting building, grant you, but really impractical for this sort of thing by the look of these photos. Why didn’t they build the shed with square walls and allow space aloft to hang them properly?

Merlin – by the look of things most of the airframes in the new building have had a spruce up/repaint – will this happen to the Belfast too?

all a/c are installed, putting end doors on the hanger today. BAC 111 getting smaller by the day. Been told that a Jaguar is flying in on 1st August for the tech school. Pity as i’m away with the UAS that week!

Totally agree with you multivac, however I prefer to see them hung than rotting away outside which would be the other option.

Who’s idea is it to hang aircraft aloft like an knocked together Airfix kit?

If the aircraft is not airworthy one should be able to see it up close and on its wheels too.

The Auster only has its wings off while the aircraft moves are taking place. The missile in Hangar 2 is a German Wasserfall surface to air missile awaiting a disply area.
The Sea Balliol is an on going project.
