Hi All,
Taken on Tuesday 27th June before the target towing Mossie was inserted in its new home. Note the eppenage. I assume this lot was added to prevent the aft flying controls becoming fouled with the target cable. Where was the target cable stowed, and does anyone have any pictures?
Cheers,
C6 🙂

I don’t recall this machine having any wartime history. The role of target towing whilst not being glamourous was essential . A number of aircraft were lost in this role – if you crave camouflage there can be no greater place to visit than the Mosquito shrine at London Colney

I know what you fella’s are saying.
I just like my mossies in the active duty camoflage if that makes sense? It’s like the mossie they have up in Canberra, fantastic airframe…. but in a post-war silver scheme? plain wrong in my book. Especially when displayed at our war memorial, it should be in a scheme as used by our combat pilots.
Seeing it dressed up as a target tug doesn’t really light my candle. I always thought that the reason to restore these beautiful aircraft was to serve as a memorial to the guys who flew them and to remember the sacrifice that a lot of them made. I don’t really want to remember targets even though a lot of them were probably lost. I think that a mossie isn’t a mossie unless it’s in camoflage colours. Did this particular aircraft have any combat history?

Shame a Mossie’s being displayed in such a garrish scheme, just my opinion. Such a nice aircraft
The scheme may be an acquired taste but I’m happy with it because it’s original, and does make a nice change I think.
The real shame is that this beautiful aeroplane will be hanging from the ceiling like the Airfix FB.VI I grotesquely built as a nipper 🙂
Still, this and other aircraft may be hanging, but at least they’ll be inside which is the most important concern.

Jager – it’s an authentic scheme from the days when they were used as targets for our own side !

Just a quick search on this forum. Ground shot originally posted by Mark12, airborne shot by Septic, both here in this thread.

If they need a drogue, I left one in my parents garage in Portsmouth… I think it’s still there…

Circus 6, I think the cable drum for the drogue was carried in the bomb bay though I have no idea what, if any, mods were made.

Where is its new home going to be? I’ll have to sack my intelligence.
