Imagine Cosford

Imagine at Cosford the Cold-War building had been built as a functional building.

It could have housed the current collection going into the new development plus:

A:

The now scrapped civil aircraft collection (I know it wasn’t theirs but still)

B:

A truly interesting Western (NATO) collection including many more objects and dsiplays.

C:

Current RAF museum aircraft sitting outside and future aquisitions
Argosy, Brittania, Comet, C-130, Nimrod, VC-10

D:

Made a proper display of East versus West, not by using the building but by using the collection.
The Russion hardware is limited to the usual Russian fighter. Imagine a ‘Bear’ or anything like it. Hardware from the research labs in the UK that were disposed of in recent years. RAE Farnborough, RAE Bedford and NGTE Pyestock. These facilities did a lot to win the Cold War.

Again the building is more important than the collection.

The same could be said for IWMN, American Air Museum and AIRSPACE.

Is somebody trying to get a Knighthood?

Expensive, not very functional.

Take care,

Chris

I totally agree with the way you feel about it but I am going to wait until it is open to make judgement, the reason for this is that on this forum all the pics I have seen are from a distance and the hanger is obviously full of cranes and rigging gear.

That is not to say that what they have done is acceptable, far from it, I am the type of enthusiast that lkes to see an airframe on it’s undercarriage in a nice well lit hanger so that you can take a few snaps and admire it relativly close up.

It appears to me that the new hanger will not provide this cenario for the hardcore enthusiast but it will cater for the casual observer that has a passing interest and hopefully will encourage young and new enthusiasts to the forefront of aviation, the debate can rage on and on with this hanger both for and against, mostly an even discusion that probably at this stage has no ending.

Unfortunatly things have gone way beyond reversing any damage done and I for one will wait untill it opens to pass judgement but one fears that the outcome is a foregone conclusion.

Regards

John.
