US Navy designations

Hello,

I am currently researching the history of Piper AE-1 N203SA and have come across a few little queries and was hoping that someone here might be able to assist.

On its US Navy record card there are a few references I am unsure of:
NAD New York is I believe Naval Air Depot?
Then on the 20 March 1944 its down on the card as ‘LANT’?
In December 1944 a reference is made to what looks like either CornAirPac or ComAirPac at Pearl Harbor. Its then struck off charge and then reinstated ending up at Guinan, Samar in November 1946. The AE-1 was then at CASU-12 on Guam and then was back at Pearl before struck off charge in September 1946.

Can anyone out there help me and provide more detail on what I have already.

Best wishes,

Martin

Martin to be certain – ask Joe @

Or email USAF archives direct – they MAY be able to help jargon bust even though its a USN airframe… you can email Archie at:

P.S.
IIRC there are pix of derelict Ex-Moz T-6s/Harvards in David Beckers SA Harvard book

There’s always a first time!!

Had another look at ‘Lant’ and it seems that it is an abbreviation for ‘Atlantic’. This could tie in as the original entry was for NAD New York on the 8 June 1943 and then it was LANT on the 20 March 1944 and back to New York on the 24 July 1943. So it stayed in the same area for that time.

Picked up another history to complete now – an ex-Mozambique Harvard Mk.4 for an owner in South Africa. From one extreme to the other!

Best wishes,

Martin
