Lovely Kansan!!!

I’d go with a C-45 for the next project too (but I would say that wouldnt I 🙂 )

Well done!

The museum is open in the weekends from 9am to 5pm. Don’t forget that it’s inside a military airbase.

About the museum’s novelties:
-The Noratlas is completely restored and looking great
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1215221/L/

-A couple of months ago ended the restoration of a AT-11 Kansan.

The next project isn´t decided, a F-84 or a C-45…

João

Hello

Asking at the gate should not pose a problem.

It is indeed not very near Sintra towncentre, despite the name.

They have added a Noratlas overthere.

Hello all,

I´d like to visit this museum on July 2007.
Did anyone know if it same condition for visit?
If I´d like visit this museum I must ask to travel agency in Sintra?
Thank you for any information.

As tapclassic said, you can go to the main gate and ask to visit the museum. However, the gate guards do not all speak English, so it is easier to take the bus to Sintra town and visit the Tourist Office, who will telephone the base for you. You can take a taxi from Sintra town to the Air Base and they will be expecting you by the time you arrive. It takes about 15 minutes by taxi.

Merge is not going anywhere. Since the mayor of Sintra changed, the plan has been stalled. Alverca’s mayor doesn’t want a museum to leave town also.

To get to sintra’s museum jus knock on the door, they have a guide.

I saw all these there last year. The collection at Sintra is not visible from the road but is inside the base. If you go to the tourist office in Sintra, they will telephone the base and arrange for someone to meet you at the gate and escort you round. At some time in the future, there are plans to merge the collections at Sintra, Alverca and Montijo into a Portuguese Aviation Museum at Sintra and that is where airframes are gradually being transferred, but it will take a long time. You will find my photos from this visit on this website:

Very interesting, thank you. That Wessex is actually a Whirlwind / S.55 / H-19

Tap – I love Alverca – it’s a fascinating place to visit and has some lovely pieces of kit
in the storage compound.

David, it think so, there were 2 at least rotting at the DGMFA overthere. One had rockets on the wing tips.

I saw some photos of the fuselage being restored.

I am amazed people knew about Alverca,

Most interesting selection of shots. Did you take any more? Is the Neptune etc outside normally accessible – looks like the ramp in the distance (2nd C.337) might be operational – or is it all within the museum’s compound?
