I was sent this piccie by one of my Swedish friends.
Here’s the text of his e-mail:
“Hi John!
IIRC you were into aviation history – last week, at work, we made a little field trip and among things we had a look at the remains of one RAF Avro Lancaster from 617. Squadron.
Damaged over Norway in October 1944, during a mission against the Tirpitz, this Lancaster – nicknamed Easy Elsie – made a crash landing on a bog near Porjus, Sweden. The crew all made though the pilot, an Australian named Beatty, was injured in the landing. The remains are still there out on the bog.
The picture is of us arriving at the wreck…
Regards,
Ulf”
Can anyone add any more information, please?
Ta.

This Lancaster has been discussed before: http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36789&highlight=easy+Elsie+NF920 and http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=383&highlight=easy+Elsie+NF920
Some photos of her can be found here: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/lancregistry/lanc-nf920.html
Incidentally, the wreck remained substantially complete until the mid-1960s, when a local scrap merchant decided to have a go at her. The rear fuselage and empennage was recovered in 1984/85 and put into storage at the Swedish Air Force Museum. Ten years later, the remains were returned to the wreck site.

Jan

Swedish Lanc
was this the one that was substantially complete until someone decided to scrap it on site, then gave up halfway (or was interrupted)? A shame if so.

This would be NF920, code KC-E. There’s more at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/aboriginal/esyelsie.htm
The Dams raid ‘E’ was ED927, AJ-E, lost on the night.
