Saab Viggen – Newark Air Museum

Just been on the Newark Air Museum website and the following update has been added about the Viggen.

http://www.newarkairmuseum.co.uk/news.cfm

“SAAB VIGGEN UPDATE 03

The wings from Saab Viggen AJSH 37, 373 918 – ‘57’ of the Swedish Air Force arrived at Newark Air Museum shortly after lunchtime today, having safely completing the short journey from RAF Cranwell in the care of the museum’s preferred aircraft transportation company, Hutchinson Engineering Services Ltd.

The fuselage will be moved when a Police / Department of Transport wide load movement permit is granted. Due to local restrictions it is anticipated that this move will not be allowed to take place until after the RAF Waddington Air Display. [20.06.06]”

David,

Difficult to photograph due to its current location, but have just come across the following on the Airscene website.

http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/scene.htm

Also forgot to mention that the Buccaneer was also being worked on, upper wing surfaces and rear fuselage.

Called in at Newark today and saw that the Saab Viggen is now on its undercarriage and substantially complete. All the tail sections have been refitted and there are still a few panels to be refitted, but nevertheless looking impressive.

In hangar 1 the Chipmunk fuselage WB624 has appeared out of storage and is mounted on a small set of wheels. It was positioned at the back behind the Annular biplane replica. According to their website it may soon be reassembled.

Just to whet the appetite – here’s a shot I took this month of Kbely’s preserved example in the Czech Republic.
