Anyone visiting Bruntingthorpe over the last 3 months might have noticed some odd construction work going on
Well, after 3 months of very hard work in very cold and very hot weather, we have finally reached the first major milestone.
The Lightning boys have got their QRA, we have a SRA
We must thank David And Peter Walton for allowing us the use of one of the RUBB Hangers to house our Beech 18 “Naval Encounter” and T-6G.
They have been very and i mean very helpful with this prject. David has allowed us unlimited use of any of the equipment we have required, and laid concrete for us as well. (That is because the old wartime Wellington hardstanding is not wide enough for a RUBB SRA and Beech 18)
David has even got in the hole with a spade to help us.I hope people can now see why we were defending David.
The project actually began last year when several of the chaps from Sywell Aviation Museum came along to dismantle the RUBB, thanks to Adrian Armishaw, Terry & Graham Levett, Dave Ellingworth and Malc Andrews.
Malc was our crane man but i got the hang of it after a while too, Thanks also go to PT Barnum (see earlier Beech 18 thread), get well soon mate after your bike accident, Leo Rowe, Ben Brown (aka Texantomcat) and “project leader” Adrian Marshall……..Yours truly as well of course
I have lots of construction pics if anyone wants to see them……..I am just glad that after all of the grunting and groaning since we started the Beech actually fits, I got my measurements correct, she sits in there real snug, about 4′ clearance.
This “Hanger” will enable us to plough ahead with both projects fairly quickly now. As readers might remember, we were asked to come out of the “Vulcan Hanger” in June of last year and since then we have been totally unable to do anything on our Beech since then………hhhmmm. I think people can imagine what we thought of that.
Anyway, we are now “almost” ready to start again on our project(s). We need to move a portakabin, set up electrics and lights, water is already sorted and most crucially, we need to get the cover over and i am not looking forward to that part.
Our plan is to erect sliding doors so we can have clear access to the field, this should be completed within the next month or so. I will also have somewhere for my little biketank as well (NSU HK-101 Kettenkrad if anyone was wondering)
hope you like the pics

Good news guys. Nice result after what obviously has been a lot of hard work. Next time I’m down at ‘Brunters’, (probably when I purloin something from eBay again) any chance of a look at the Beech and T6?
Thanks in hopeful advance.

There will be two separate lightning runs durning the morning and when they have both cooled down a pairs run in the afternoon
Love the SRA shed lads, looks great well done.
This is what it looked like before we took it down in May 2004 to make way for our ‘little’ shed
I have to add we’ve now got a ‘bigger one’ 😀 😀
And two years later we have this;

Anybody got 30K for the concrete ??
Phil,TT see you on the 17th June if your on site, we’re planning an antidet run with 904.

Bah!
P.S.
Anyone coming to the LPG day – the Beech/Harvard may NOT be on the flightline as they are abit of a pain in the bum to move at the moment – that said if any forum members would like a ‘back lot’ tour (poor sods) – Yak11 and the much missed Steve Young took advantage in the past (to name but two) – I’m happy to oblige- even the erstwhile forumite ‘Italian Harvard’ will be making his pilgrimage from Italy and will no doubt be signing bras in one of the tents…

If standing at the front of the Guppy, look to the left and you will see the hanger about 150 yards away.

One day he’ll learn how to spell hangar.
I despair 😉
Praps those who bemoan the fact that we havent been able to help ‘elsewhere’ can see that we dont sit on our arses and do nowt – we have been working like navvies in weather ranging from sleet snow and blazing sunshine – (basically four of us put it up!) – they know who they are 😡
