Whatever happened to G-IRCC

G-IRCC was a hot air balloon bought ( £30000 + ) by the Inland Revenue Corporate Communications Department in the last days of the John Major Conservative Government to promote the Self Assessment Tax Declaration System which was then being introduced.

I did ask our MP at the time whether the public, given they indirectly bought it, were to be given free flights in the balloon, and as this was something we could not opt out of, why it was felt necessary to spend so much.

The balloon was approved at the highest levels for a one off event in Hyde Park and was deemed to have been a great success in terms of the high profile it gave compared to other forms of commercial advertising.

Can anyone throw any light as to when it was cancelled as it no longer appears in UK Registrations.

How appropriate that a Government organization should operate a hot air balloon.

I cannot find any records of G-IRCC within the CAA records.
