A very different Heathrow

So who among the old gits on this forum can recall this gentleman who inhabited Heathrow in the late 1950s?
The one on the left, that is. The one on the right is….well, you can all guess. The date on the back is September 3 1957, which means I was a few weeks short of my sixth birthday. The van almost hidden is, I think, my dad’s old Austin A40.
I can remember the photograph being taken and my dad’s hopes of espying one of the Russian jets – presemably the Tu-104 has started Heathrow services by then. Alas, we were disappointed, and it was to be another decade before I clocked my first Tu-104, at Schiphol in April 67.
