Dave Morris, Corsair book

The subject of the work done to uncover the past life of the Fleet Air Arm Corsair has been covered here in the past. Dave Morris, the man responsible, has written a book on the subject (published by Sutton Press) and it is a great read.

It is the sort of restoration that is not done often enough and has yielded a lot of good results. Rumour has it that the Martlet restoration is already doing the same.

Definitely one to get.

Didn’t someone (possibly Mark12) post a photo a couple of years back of the Martlet stripped back to natural metal at Loughborough?

Melv…”or painted silver”.

…and painted silver was a fair tonal judgement from the B/W photos in comparison with the adjacent Spitfire and Hurricanes.

…and then along came this colour shot in recent months fromTony Jones.

A credit to the last name of Morris, he is, working on Corsairs like that……reminds me of me old pappy working at Vought during the war, cranking out Corsairs for pilots of the Free world to use….maybe my relative Morris worked on this particular Corsair before This Mr. Morris did…..would love to pick up the book some day….

Second that, a truly excellent read and very painstaking workmanship involved even down to picking off flakes of paint with a scalpel 😮

Picked mine up (signed to !) on the launch day at the recent FAAM book fair, but should be available widely by now including of course the FAAM shop at £19.99.

Highly recommended reading……. 😀

it’s selling well, been informed copies are available through main aviation book stockists & the FAA museum. As a present to Dave I made him this. Its the corsair as it would of looked like just before going into the paint-shop! Of note is the ‘camo’ paint on tail. Anyway his book is a recommened buy!!

I attended one of Dave’s lectures on this; hell of an achievement and an approach to be followed in future. I wonder what there is to discover under that outer coat of paint on the Spit I at Lambeth?
