…. What is the reason for the sale? If it’s one of those whereby the site owners want shut of it, then will the aircraft become one of those which are bought with very good intentions and then funds run out, or will it become a scrapper?….
As it says in Flat 12x2 ‘s link to Thunder & Lightnings site and in the link to the advert itself, the owners (father & son) were both deceased recently in seperate accidents.
It appears to be complete, but decidely tatty now……..

£25,000
Ouch!!!!!!
Ouch indeed. Buyer collects, I presume. If the spare engine is the one in the photos then it’s probably not worth more than £2.50, giben the amount it would cost to restore it just to display condition. The aircraft itself might weigh less if the moss was jet washed off it too. What is the reason for the sale? If it’s one of those whereby the site owners want shut of it, then will the aircraft become one of those which are bought with very good intentions and then funds run out, or will it become a scrapper? Be such a shame. Mind you, twenty-five grand seems an awful lot of anyone’s pocket money.

By all accounts you can get VERY close to it! Found these on another airfield researcher’s site taken very recently.

Its XA459, for 10+years it used to live out in the open in a garden in Cirencester.

Not sure how the Gannet and the building it resides in have managed to move 3/4 of mile down the road to the Airfield site

It’s a bit noisy to build houses on – the M4 runs across the field! Membury services, just after Junction 14, are on the site, though a fair bit is still agricultural land and there is some full-width runway remaining on both sides of the motorway.
When I visited there was a Super Cub there – missed the Gannet, looks like it’s been there a while though. By the way, if you look at the map you’ll see a strange near-circular feature just south of the airfield. It’s an iron-age “hill fort” – an interesting thing to find on a flat piece of ground!

Where is RAF Membury and I hope it stays how it is and no homes are built on it.
