BBMF Lancaster Flypast this Sunday

For those in the Huntingdon/St Ives area on Sunday the Lancaster will be doing a flypast over Warboys for the Pathfinders reunion at 14:40.

Apparently the Playing fields are the best place to watch it from, but the top of my Kids’ climbing frame was just as good last time!

Unfortunately it looks like I will be out this year, but I may be able to re-adjust my Wife’s plans…or maybe not 🙁

Not only a nice sight but it would be nice to hear as well. I reckon the Napier Sabre would certainly sound different to your run of the muill Merlins and Griffons.

Nice for some to think that the sound of Merlins and Griffons is run of the mill. All I get to hear round here are Fletcher topdressers and the occasional turboprop airliner… bah!

LOL … here I am thinking wow … these Pommies just go out for a drive and there’s a Lanc and a Typhoon cruising overhead … very cool, my face would’ve loooked a wonder too. Then someone says (throwback to Mr Milligna) “them’s not Typhoons, them’s ‘awks”.

Well confound me – how could you mistake a Typhoon for a Hawk … one’s got this blooody great radiator slung under a hell of a big piston donk …

Oh, the later Typhoon. Oh.

Is there even one of the earlier Typhoons flying these days? That really would be a sight.

So was it transitting back on Friday? A Chippie did a run down Warboys high street (the run the Lanc normally takes for the Pathfinders flypast) and then headed North.

Only one complete Hawker Typhoon still exists, and it’s safely tucked away at the RAF museum. Given the rarity of an appropriate Napier Sabre engine, there’s no real chance that a replica could be flown either… more’s the pity.

Chippy went to Halton Tues afternoon, stayed overnight, so that the boss could fly with the AOC in the chippy the following day.

VIS IN LINCS

Yes, it was a bit grotty in Lincs today, with a bit of light drizzle etc. However, it did not seem to cramp the Lanc’s style, as I saw it over a village fete at approx 11.00 and then at approx 15.30 it was skirting round Boston to follow the River Witham towards Coningsby. Just thought: if it was following the river – the vis must have been grotty!

The Dak was meant to display at Hyde Heath (Great Missenden) fete, but scrubbed due to grotty viz in Lincs, apparently. Had to watch the dog show instead.

BBMF

Yes, it was a Hawk. It left Just after the Lanc, LF363 & P7350 on their way to Blackpool.
See still from from video as the Lanc taxied past the Hawk.
The Chippie took of a few minutes after them but it was only flying around locally when I left.

HAWK!!!!!!Guzzineil Must get that opticians appointment 😀 😀 😀 😀
dave

you may’ve been correct, the Hawk was just an educated guess based on a Hawk having visited for a ‘photo shoot’ , leaving CBY at the same time as the BBMF on its way home to Leeming.. 😉
