During the 1970s (between 1973 and 1978), my dad returned from work (RAF Staxton Wold) and said a Javelin had made an emergancy landing at Leconfield that day. I was under the impression that the Javeline had retired by the later 1960s? Can anyone verify if such an aircraft landed at Leconfield?

The Javelin was retired during 1965 and only one was left flying with the RAE until 1975, XH897 was used as a chase plane and a calibration platform for other new jets.
Not quite.
No. 228 OCU at Leuchars had Javelins on strength until, I believe, November 1966. They were training aircrews for the last 2 squadrons in the Far East, 60 & 64. No. 60 Sqn, the last unit to operate Jav’s, disbanded on 30 April 1968.

It was delivered to IWM Duxford where it now resides as a whole airframe and is in good condition, This being the only one that was flying in the UK at the time you are talking about then if you make further enquiries on this one alone then I am sure you will find out more.
Regards
John.

Do you mean JAVELIN? XH897 (the red and white one) was flying with A&AEE until the mid 1970’s
