Help to identify this item?

I’ve had this RAF item in my collection of ‘stuff’ for about a decade, and as yet I’ve not found anyone who has had a clue as to what it is for?

As you can see it’s a black metal box measuring 4″x4″x10″ long, with one side in black leather which opens out. The black leather is embossed with the AM mark and a date of 1940. There is a black leather handle on the top.

Hoping to solve a ten year mystery…… 🙂

Solved

Just been reliably informed from a source within BBMF that said mystery object is fitters/riggers toolbox for carrying small service items for work on the line. Apprentley they can be seem often in photos of fitters on their bicycles, and they are balanced on the cross bars….. 🙂

Just the BofB era Hurricane to go with it now…..
