Substantial Spitfire remains, the future? (old thread 2006)

Hi all,

The remains of Spitfire Blue Peter AD540 are no longer with the Dumfries & Galloway Museum. Any idea where they are now and what are the plans for it. I saw the Blue Peter television report when this wreck was recovered with presenter John Leslie.

Also the Shoreham Museum has the substantial remains of a Spitfire XVI (TB*** serial escapes me at the moment). They were under restoration, is this still the case? Geoff?

Cheers

Cees

AD540

In connection with my post from July 2010 about AD540. I don’t think any work has been done on it since September of 2010, that’s when Vintage Warbird Restoration Limited last worked on it anyway. Unless the owner has found someone else to proceed.

It still has a lot of work to be done but I’m sure if it’s meant to fly someone will do it, either the owner or if it’s sold on to someone else.

Regards to all

Nope, that is P&W in Essex…..Peter Wood who own the AD540 remains is in Twyford Bucks and owned the Seafire 17 that Kennet will fly this year for many years. Peter has restored engines in the past though.

Thanks Dave,

Will they form the basis for a reconstruction?

Yes it will, and is currently in progress (albeit slowly).

I think thats P & A Woods over at Dunmow; when you drive passed the premises you can see a shiny Merlin in the window; makes you want to ram raid the place!! (only kidding)

TB885 is currently stored, in several locations, and has not had any work done on it so far as I know for a long time.

The ‘Blue Peter’ remains are with Peter Wood . He has had them for over ten years.
