Avro Cadet

Whilst on my holiday in New Zealand noticed an advert in back of a certain Classical aviation magazine offering the airworthy Avro Cadet, ex Irish Air Corps for sale. I thought this aircraft was suposed to be coming back to Ireland for their airforce. Anyone got any ideas about this?

More info on http://www.avrocadet.com

Having good time down here, very nice chap showed me around at Ferrymead and did Wigram museum today. Wanaka beckons for tomorrow!

Aaaaargh….

Thanks Consul,

Its worse than I could have imagined…..

The trouble with an old wooden airframe that has got this bad is..the wood will need replacing.

So, wheres it all going?? I shudder to think of the corrosion problems that the others will have suffered.

A crying shame.

I would like to see pictures of the lot if anybody has them.

The Messenger cockpit shot is of my old G-AKBO. A nice period panel ruined by modern avionics, switches and dymo labels..aargh!

A real pity he wont speak to me in view of our shared interest in Miles and Ryan ( there is a PT22 there too, in addition to a Vultee and Cornell I believe, plus others.)

Hairy[/QUOTE]

Bob had 3 PT22’s and i know at least 2 are still with him plus a PT 23 ( not a Cornell šŸ˜‰ ) He also has BT 17, Pitts S2a ( ex Rothmans), Stampe (ex Rothmans) Stephens Acro, And the two Miles, whitney Straight and Monarch ( both in a bad way)
Also gem of gems is the loverly KZ8.

Bob has been discussing getting some of these treasures airworthy again. šŸ™‚

Bob Mitchell’s machines at Cosford have been debated here many times. Like Dr Ian Dalziel who owns the WW Monarch, he doesnt respond to any efforts to obtain his Witney Straight, Monarch or other flying machines, despite the sorry conditions they are stored in. ……………..

Anybody had a peek recently and can post the photos here?

Hairyplane,
Did you not see the link I provided in my recent post about Proctukas – see the following (2nd photo down) which shows the Monarch G-AIDE (ex G-AFRZ) @ Cosford – but not sure how long back – not my photo see credits + website ID. http://www.wonwinglo.scale-models.net/id33.htm

DR Ian Dalziel eh, I’d report him to the British Medical Council for causing undue mental anguish!

One day matey, the hairy flight line will include a Monarch and a Whitney Straight, perhaps a BA Eagle and who knows even something by Messrs Percivals….

Hang on a minute, not sure why I’m imagining you owning them – that should be me!

All t best

MMMmmiles

Traitor? Naaaah!

Lots of Miles machines on my wish list but the owners won’t part with them.

The most desirable project is Monarch G-AFLW languishing at White Waltham defying all efforts by nutters such as me to acquire it.

Avro Cadet

Tis true it has been for sale for a long time. The price hasn’t budged.

It may well be worth it. However, the market is very limited for machines of this nature because they cost a shed load of money to operate and keep nice.

The Tutor, a similar machine, has, I guess similar extruded steel spars. Anybody considering this machine would, unless they have been replaced, be well advised to have the spars Boroscoped. I dread to think of the cost if they are corroded within, however nice they might look externally.

I want it but theres a surprise…. If 50 grand would buy it, consider it sold!
