Ron
Unable to date the Lincoln pic but it is included in the book ‘Forever Farnborough’ by Peter J Cooper published in 1996. In that he acknowledges the DERA press office and the Company Secretary’s Department for access to the photographic library for all the illustrations.

Can anyone date the top photo please? Anyone any idea where the photo may have come from originally, its a black and white about a 14″x12″ in a white wood frame. Not the sort of thing you see every day. I bought it from an antique auction in Kendal Uk for a fiver last week,
Thanks

Could it be he is bowing his head in a moments silence for the loss of this great airplane πŸ˜‰

Here she is in her final days on the Stansted dump. Although the picture is from my collection, I didn’t take it, so I can’t offer too many details apart from the obvious, ie Stansted mid/late 1960s.
Nor can I identify the gentleman apparently relieving himself!

The airfield is Farnborough with the westerley end of the runway visible and the Basingstoke canel. The light coloured area is the sandy soil of the army vehicle training area long valley. Town of Fleet visible in distance.
WF533 must have looked impressive as I believe the light wing tips nose and tail were day-glo.

Ron

Malcolm is right, the Lincoln is indeed RF533.

It spent its entire life flying with various test or experimental units. In June 1952, Portsmouth Aviation, sub-contracted by Avro, I believe, fitted a nose section designed to take any one of a number of fighter radomes and interception radar units, and it was delivered to RAE Farnborough in May 1954. Subsequently it also took part in windscreen/rain trials, and tests on parachutes, target banners and towing equipment at RAE. RF533 made its last operational flight on 21.4.61 and was struck off charge on 3.5.61, fatigue life exhausted. It was delivered to Stansted Fire Fighting School on 27.6.61 and burnt between 1962 and 1967.

As to the airfield, I don’t have a clue, sorry!

Is it RF533 fitted with a stepped nose to observe rain erosion of a Javelin radome in the nose?
