What was flying around the area doing aero’s at 2000ft with Luftwaffe markings??

Here’s a pic of ‘BSMD’ prior to departure on the flight ZRX61 mentioned. There was more than a little ‘artistic’ writing in that article 😉

Does anyone here have any more info about where the two I mentioned in a post from last year ended up? According to G-INFO they were deregistered but nothing more!

That Iron Cross plantation is superb. I’d heard a similar story about British POWs, I’m sure.

Damnation! I doubt I’d be able to see that! 🙁
Ta for the info, though.
Daz Nord 1101 G-BDSM should be operating out of Prestwick this year and attending local airshows, possibly accompained by 3 Chipmunks. Whether they plan to shot it down or not remains to be seen! 😮

Here’s another 1101/208 shot:

There it is, more impressive than I thought it would be!
Awesome! 😀

whats the difference between the 1101 and the 1002?
Well the 1101 was developed from the 1000/1001 and has a nose wheel, the 1002(Me108) has a tail wheel. The canopy is also different and it has so much dihedral on the wings that you’d be sure the spar was broken!!

I expect it was flying around the ‘ Iron Cross Wood’
The story, as told to me, was that a bunch of German POWs were doing some horticultural work, and when nobody was looking, planted a load of acorns in the pattern of an Iron Cross (not a Swastika, they were nice POWs )
Proof required? Just go to Multimap, look at Henley On Thames, and convert map to Aerial photo. The wood is on a NNW radial, one mile from the town centre.

OK ZRX61 back to you.
When you say ‘Luftwaffe markings’ did you actually see the crosses, or just the style of camouflage?
Moggy
I didn’t see it at all, I’m 6500 miles away, but some bloke on a bike board mentioned seeing a Fw190 doing aero’s over Henley at 2000ft which I thought a bit unlikely.

Would that be Jim Hardie’s example that has just flown in Scotland?
Moggy
No thats an 1101, its the Nord 1002 that dresses as the Me108.
Having said that I think we’ll see both an Argus engined 1101 and at least 1 (maybe 2) 108’s. Glen Lacy has the 1101 and the 1002 being rebuilt with Argus engines (I think he has said as much here himself). Also the ex Walton machine might be destined for an engine exchange but we’ll have to wait and see. Both owners have the resources and the motivation so lets keep our fingers crossed.

I think we will see an Argus engined example in UK skies before too long..

Sorry mate it was G-ASML. We already know his humour is as bad as mine anyway

Unfortunately it wasn’t me 😀

Bog off Moggy, your humour is getting as bad as mine.

So let’s get this straight. That Fokker was a Messerschmitt? Sounds like an old joke to me! :diablo:

Ouch that really hurts the wallet, but that said, what in aviation doesn’t?
By: Taifun - 10th April 2006 at 13:34
Point taken. There are some things that just have to be I guess. I didn’t realise the Argus was notious for being sensitive, in what way?
Well never making TBO appears to be the main complaint. Although one experienced view is that its because of how the engines are used. Most of the current airworthy Argus engines are fitted in the Storch, and people love to show how slow a Storch can fly. This results in high power settings/low forward speed meaning that they get cooked..
I’ve heard 400 hours and that an overhaul might be c. £25 – £30k.
