Last P-40 victories?

In Air-Britain’s civil aircraft register on the Netherlands (published in 1987), there’s an interesting story about a NEIAF figher, which, in 1950, shot down a Chinese Lisunov Li-2 over Borneo. A Dutch-owned Dakota was turned over to China as compensation for the shoot down.

The C-47 in question was PH-TAZ, C-47A-1-DK c/n 12173, USAAF 42-92379, cancelled on Nov 14, 1950. The afore-mentioned Air-Britain book contains the following information on PH-TAZ; “To China as compensation for a Li-2 which was shot down over Borneo, N.E.I. by a Dutch fighter”.

I sent a request for more information to the Dutch AF Historical Section about a year ago, but no answer yet.

Re the type of figher used, I have a reference somewhere that it was a Curtiss P-40N. But, N.A. P-51D Mustangs and Spitfire IXs were operated by the NEIAF as well.

Incidentally, according to http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_303.shtml, a Dutch P-40 shot down an Indian-registered C-47, VT-CLA, on 29 July 1947.

Does anyone have more information on these incidents?

Jan
