Can anyone confirm this is indeed on this Saturday….?
It’s probably 7 or 8 years since I’ve been to on of these, just wondering if it’s still worth a trip or not in terms of looking for items of WW2 RAF flying kit?

and as each year goes by like the stalls the portaloo’s get less and less, this year only being two!
Ah but sometimes there has been only one, and who recalls the event when there were none at all, due, apparently, to a vehicle breakdown?

As Bruce stated, its great to meet people with a similar interest and of a similar ilk, hoever I do feel this great venue is getting smaller and smaller as each year goes by, this particular one seemed to have less stalls than on other previous occasions. Light hartedly I always judge the sucess of Shoreham by the amount of Portaloo’s they have outside. When I first started going I seem to remember a long row of Portaloo’s, and as each year goes by like the stalls the portaloo’s get less and less, this year only being two! Anyhow spent lots of money, best find was a Hunter starting panel but didn’t come cheap! Looking forward to another revisit later this year.

Its all relative; the days of big ministry clearouts have gone, and as these always filtered down to the aerojumbles, it means they have changed too.
I usually go in March, but having spent a few weeks moving parts back into our store up here, I decided to give it a miss. I will be there in September, and selling this time!
It is ALWAYS good to go and meet up with friends and contacts – I have had some good finds over the years, and whilst they are getting thinner on the ground, it makes the looking that much more interesting. Ebay has had an impact on the jumbles, but it is rather impersonal!

Overall, I thought it was quite good, certainly better than the last one in September 2005.
There were a few nice pieces and one or two new faces on the stalls – the Beaufort and Whitley c.g. models were fascinating.
The visitors seemed to be in more of a buying mood, too.
There’s talk of moving the venue. It tickles me to hear stallholders whingeing about Shoreham being “too far out” (from London), having driven 300 miles to get there myself.
And thanks for the compliment, Elliott, glad you’ve found them interesting!

1st time I have been it seemed smaller than one I went to last year in Gatwick, which is on again next month cant rember the date off hand,
A few nice items sadly all out of my price range such as W&R3 for £25 too much for me sadly Just could not justify the outlay, I do collect them and would loved to have got it but not being able to work you cant spend that much on one book.
Got some modling tools and three free paper plane concordes!

I went today. I had mixed feelings about going, but of course if you don’t go, you are guaranteed to miss out on that one off rarity that you will never ever see again.
It has shrunk to about half the size it was 2 years ago (outside at least) and even the tent had space for a few extra tables etc.
Didn’t find any amazing bargains at all, but those days are behind us now with the odd exception of course. Caught up with a few people which was nice and bought some bits and pieces which might come in handy one day.
I just wish I had been doing this in the 80s. Damn my relative youth. 😀
BTW I recommend Alan’s Air Ministry reference books – I bought all 3 volumes and they are great.

🙁 In my OWN opinion, not that good. Been to better ones. Lots of overpriced instruments claiming to be from the prototype Fairy Fruitbat mk.3, and bits of wreckage, and overpriced books, but not a lot else. Seemed to be far fewer stalls too, both inside and out. Glad I went, but overall quite disappointing. 😡 I did overhear comments that the future of the Aeromart was not looking good due to the impact E-B** is having generally on this type of thing…how true that is..I don’t know, I’m no expert.
The foregoing is my opinion based on my experience today, obviously others may have enjoyed it more, and no doubt I will be vilified for my sacriligeous comments!

Keith

I bought a Canberra control column a few years ago for £40. The stallholder had left Mrs. in charge for a while and I’m sure she underpriced it – sold it on Ebay a while later for £140 🙂 One of the few times I’ve come out ahead!

I think its worth going as you never know what you might find. Several years I saw an original manual and pilots notes for a Defiant but didn’t buy it. I’ve regreted it ever since.
