However – your McClure tip got me to 1973 movie ‘Death Race’

Plot Outline: In the North African desert in World War II, a damaged American fighter plane that is unable to take off tries to evade and destroy a pursuing Nazi tank.

Can we get back onto suspenders??

I may be forced to moderate myself but …

Natalie Wood in the Great Race? (Which fortunately featured Historic Aviation)

Surely, if Doug McLure was in a movie it would be called ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth?

Name that film

P40 being chased across the desert leaking coolant? Er…Can’t remember the title but do I get a prize for remembering that the pilot was good old clean cut ‘you couldn’t possibly kill this bloke because he is so nice’ Doug McClure? Boy has he starred in some naff movies – Journey to the Centre of the Earth to name but one. I seem to remember that the film in question was naff too?!

Can we get back onto suspenders??

The 4 engined prop airliner in the Gergory Peck / Audrey Hepburn classic “Roman Holiday” ?

OK, here’s another one.

Anyone recall a made-for-TV movie from a good few years back that featured a German tank chasing a damaged / unflyable P40 across the Western Desert?

There was a pic of the “Messerstang” in one of Flypast’s mags a few years ago – I remember it well as the shot showed that only the underside of the starboard wing had a German cross on it…!

It’s a M3 Lee isn’t it?

In the remake of the film the fighter was played by Guido and Lynn Zuccholi’s Fiat G-59B

An early-model N.A. P-51 Mustang.
