Spitfire Mk.XVI, RR227

Dear friends,

The early Mk.XVIs had the high-back (Mk.IX style) fuselage, and the later Mk.XVIs had the low-back with bubble-canopy. Was RR227, in which Otto Smik was killed on November 28 1944, a high- or a low-back model ?

Regards,

Benno

More then likely a high back XVI. It seems that the low back birds didn’t start arriving until the Spring of 45 in March and April.
