Rummaging through the garage this afternoon I came across a box with some photo albums in which I had forgotten about. In one album I found these taken back in the 1980’s when the Viscount was still in regular cross channel service to the Channel Islands. They were taken using a Canon AE1, god only knows what lens. Anyhow they’re not of great quality due to scanning, but hopefully of some interest.

Good ones – especially the Channel Viscounts. That must have been taken just after they went bust!

More Viscounts
Here’s a few scanned from my slides this morning.
When did I get old enough to have been taking slides in 1969
G-AOHS, Elmdon, 26 December 1969 (4:00pm from the hangar clock!)
G-AVNJ, Southend, 27 May 1972
HK-1061, Castle Donnington, 23 July 1971
Enjoy!

One of the most attractive civilian airliners everbuilt in my view second only to Concorde but first for an all british airliner
Gotta agree with you there – there’ll never be another propliner with the character of the Viscount 😮
I’d also add the VC-10 to the list of attractive British airliners. Vickers as well 😀

Great photo’s. You may not be surprised to hear that the Hermes particularly caught my attention. Do you know when this picture was taken? I believe that this aircraft was scrapped at this location. I had a friend and colleague who worked for Channel at the time.
S.B.
I think it was taken in the Summer of 1966. It use to come in for checks by Channel and was always put in the Tradair hangar. I myself was working there at the time doing a holiday job, and one of my tasks was to clean the underside of the aircraft using petrol extracted from the aircraft itself and a swab! Believe it or not, it was absolute bliss!

Here is my contribution to this thread.
Therefore for completeness I have included a full photo of the Hermes. All major checks for this aircraft were carried out by Channel. Note the Viscount fin on the right!

Here is my contribution to this thread.
I have included a Channel Viscount on lease to British Eagle standing outside the Channel Hangar at Southend….the engineering crew on the left are just returning from their tea break!
I have also included a Bahamas Airways Viscount parked outside the Tradair hangar, also at Southend. This aircraft was also leased from Channel and eventually returned to their livery. Note the Hermes nose on the left.
Therefore for completeness I have included a full photo of the Hermes. All major checks for this aircraft were carried out by Channel. Note the Viscount fin on the right!
