Is this museum still in existance ?
I was updating my list of preserved Lightnings ( http://www.macksaviation.com/preserved.php?show=main ) and found that one former resident (XM192) had moved to Thorpe Camp, Woodhall Spa stating the reason was the Bomber County Museum closing. I do know that the RAF have again taken over the site so wouldn’t be surprised if it has closed.
I did try sending an e-mail via their website but it was returned undelivered.
If it has closed any help in locating the other Lightning appreciated also if my website list needs updating further then either post a reply here or contact me through my website. Thanks
Dave

re:
What did they do with the exhibits? They had a lot of kit, several cabinets of models and a mock up air raid shelter.
Same with when they closed the museum at Beverly – 4 rooms full of models – what happened to them?

Evzen – Thanks for the reminder ! The Hunter had her nose removed and that headed to Aeroventure at Doncaster . I must point out that is was a composite and in fairly poor condition. The rest was scrapped. Similarily the Canberra whilst looking reasonable was suffering quite badly from corrosion.

In the year 2004 I visited this museum but unfortunately already was without marks life.
Fortunately all the aeroplanes put photo at least over the fence.
I interest would me fate of all aeroplanes in this museum.

As for the Canberra – now one complete T.19 left at Newark with the nose of the Hemswell example now at Doncaster (Aeroventure).

Sadsack – The rent was reasonable from speaking to members of the former group and indeed helping to move one of the aircraft. The problem was too many aircraft and not enough members to maintain them. Simply put a museum needs to be on business terms and you need to both have a realistic price for admission and a good cafe. There was certainly enough visiting public to Hemswell to make it pay – you simply cannot rely on aircraft in a field anymore to keep the public interested.

re:
I find it most unlikely that the RAF would resue it when Scampton is just down the road. Hemswell has no runways, all the buildings are privately owned there is no security and the housing is now Hemswell Cliff village.
The government still own the hangars (what a waste) and I was told the landlords jacked the rent up 10 times to get rid od the museum. I was that told by the team moving the Mysterre. A pity the Canberra was broken up, how many T19s are left?

XM144 nose isn’t with Barry Parkhouse, and hasn’t been for some time.
