Can any of you recognise this small lamp unit? It is said to be from a Hurricane.
It does not appear to be a standard Air Ministry item. It has a brass lamp holder, set into an alloy casing. There is a brass inner sleeve which looks as though it should slide in and out and rotate, directing the beam from the lamp onto the required area (a bit like the usual Cockpit Lamp, Mk. II).
I cannot see any numbers or stamps.
Over to you!

Hi Alan
The brass rotating part at the end reminds me of a lamp assembly I bought many years ago that was reputed to have been from a B-17.
Thought i’d help confuse things a little bit 🙂
Never heard back from you about that 5c stuff 😉

Thanks Rocketeer, I was hoping you’d give some advice on the subject.
It’s obviously been excavated at some point, so what is it?
Hmmm, I love this stuff…

Nothing like the lamps used in the cockpit or on the tail of a Hurri…sorry

Hmm.
saying that then I wonder if it maybe from the cockpit so the light would only shine on the instrument panel?

It might be, Peter, I honestly haven’t a clue.
If it were fitted to the rudder, it would mean that the light given out by it would only be visible from certain angles, due to the sleeve over the lamp. I think tail lamps were always visible when viewed directly from the rear – this one wouldn’t be.

Would it be from the rudder?
