I stubmled accross these on the internet the other day, whilst searching for possible ‘classic (British?) aircraft’ themed merchandise to sell at Air Atlantique events. Firstly, does anybody remember these, or even does anybody still have any, unmade or otherwise?

…the real question is, does anybody know if they are still avaialable anywhere? I have a feeling that BA used to hand them out as in flight gifts to kids on flights, I remember as a kid having the full set, and trying to butcher the Viking into a variety of sort of Varsity/Valetta ish models..
…those were the days 😀

The “other” models in white plastic were the Pan Am set as mentioned earlier, and included a Boeing Clipper flying boat and a Concorde (remember them :diablo: ), all with moulded Pan Am markings. These were produced in a much softer white plastic, and level of accuracy on things like propellors was much inferior to the later kellogs set, which were better apart formt he garish colours of the plastics – though I suspect colour choice was made on basis of making the models attracive to younger children – though I wonde rhow many JT9D engines were swallowed by younger brothers or sisters,a s I remember the 747 engines being so small that they were damn near impossible to handle without tweezers.

Yes I had all these, but found Viscounts very hard to find so I wrote to Kelloggs and sent one one my numerous TriStars asking them if they could exchange it – and they did! One of the Tristars won a trophy at the IPMS Show at Telford a few years back, beautifully hand painted in Gulf Air colours. They were indeed all on e.bay a few months ago and I e.mailed the seller to see if she would sell them separately, but alas it was ‘all or nothing’!

YES i do!
At a model engineer exhibition i saw one of the Shorts flying boats beautifully rigged – so small was it it was rigged with human hair (ok, yuk, but amazing)
I always wanted to get another set –
good thread, brought back memories!

If you search International sellers there’s also a Kelloggs Pan Am 707 from the 1950’s? for sale but as that was a different range from those in 1985 I didn’t put the link in. Finding ‘stuff’ on ebay can be a real ******* pain!!

Typical! I did a search on eBay before posting here and found nowt, then look what someone puts on less than a couple of hours later…

I think “Daz” washing powder did something similar in the 70s. The models didn’t half pong though.

Takes you back doesnt it, fighting with your brothers to see who opens the cornflakes 1st and gets the model .
would be nice to find the tooling for the kits if they was still around somewhere,

Jeez, I can just about remember these, from about ’85 or so. Vaguely recall having the Sunderland, too. Being rather young, it didn’t last very long!

I also converted the Viking into a Varsity and painted another like a Valetta, and even sadder turned several Vikings into a Hastings, looked ok though.
Still have them in a shoe box somewhere, must dig em out.

Made the Viscount model when I was a kid, seem to remember it was VERY small!!

Not much help now I’m afraid, but I’m pretty certain I saw the TriStar, Atalanta and Viking on ebay a while ago.

I remember quite a lot of cereal aviation freebies way back then. “Jet” garages had a run of WWI biplanes in the earlly to mid seventies as I recall. I think they were pretty accurate for their time, probably 1:144 though

A bit of a typo presumably…
…I think they first appeared around 1985.
