Triplane Auction

With the current trend being to auction off your WWI fighter I give you this:

Any ideas which aircraft this is? as I can’t match the finish to any I know of.

The markings are that of Werner Voss, that is, standard factory finish with the face painted on the front of the cowl. The face markings were apparently patterned after decorations on Chinese kites that Voss played with as a child.

And here is a photo of Werner, No. 2 ace I believe and why do I have a photo of him, because he is my double. 😀

Thanks for clearing that up Baldeagle, from what is said about the aircraft on the site you are right about it being authentic, rotary engine, guns and finish, superb! would be a great addition to any collection. I volunteer to walk the wingtip! 😉

It belongs to Ross Walton, who runs Vintage Aero Fabrics, in Kentucky. It’s probably one of the two or three most authentic Fokker Triplanes replicas in the world. It’s most recent public outing was at the WW1 Dawn Patrol fly-in at the US Air Force Museum in Dayton. The markings are that of Werner Voss, that is, standard factory finish with the face painted on the front of the cowl. The face markings were apparently patterned after decorations on Chinese kites that Voss played with as a child.
Take a look at www.gwaero.org for some info and photos of the Dayton event, it’s every other year in the Autumn, and is a great event.
