109 on Trade-A-Plane

Has anybody else noticed this:

1942 Messerschmitt Chattanooga TN
MESSERSCHMITT Bf-109F- Brand new! Incredible find: factory new Bf-109F in its original shipping crate. Never assembled, exactly as it was sent from Austria to the front in 1942. Expensive, but nothing like it in the world. Serious enquiries only, please. Box 1110, C/O Trade-A-Plane, P.O. Box 509, Crossville, TN 38557.

Thanks for the heads up Mark 😉

Hello Cees

I can’t recall the exact details of the engines, I’m fairly sure they were discovered in ‘The East’ somewhere, must try to dig the article out.

I’m just as dubious as everyone, remember the story of P-51s in shippng crates in China? The trouble is that when Flug Werke found those DB engines in the same condition as this mystery 109 it threw a spanner in the works as it was the first time I’d heard of such a thing myself… time will tell.

Tom

Hi Tom,

What exactly is the story behind those DB engines they found?

During 1997 I saw two BW801’s in excellent condition in a hangar at North Weald and they were rumoured to be from Doug Arnold and coming from Russia. Is that where the DB’s came from as well?

Cheers

Shipping crate

Errr…why would someone send a 109 to The Front in a shipping crate?
Just puzzled, the only place that comes to mind is North Africa.

There was discussion on Wix about this some weeks ago and a subsequent post about it indicates the ‘seller’ may be a con all right

Yikes,anyone won the lottery recently.
Where was it found,in a barn or something?,not the sort of thing to escape being noticed for 60 + years.
