Something Swedish?

I have not posted anything for quite some time due to moving house and looking after my wife. Thought I should getback into things again and I will try and post something once a week.

To start the ball rolling here are seven photos of Swedish or Swedish operated aircraft. What little I know of them is listed below.

Papa Lima
thanks for the info! The course my dept is sending me on is only to allow me basic interaction and reading/writing level. Nothing near fluency, though I will take class through the Swedish Consulate on my return. I did live there for 8 months or so (Stockholm) so I have a very basic knowledge… i.e jag vill har en ol (<– on American keyboard!)

Entropy:
This web site lists Swedish aviation museums – I am far away from most of them, however, and some are no longer open. I suggest that when you get to Uppsala you find a tourist information centre, either there or in Stockholm (not too far away) and get up-to-date information. I do know for certain that our local Aeroseum in Gothenburg which was scheduled to open in 2005 was delayed, and is now expected to open this year instead.

Good luck if you plan to learn Swedish in 8 weeks – it took me 2 years just to get started!

Here is one I omitted from the initial batch. A line of Tiger Moths of Royal Swedish Air Force F 5 known as SK 11a in Swedish service.

No problem, Jan, I will put out a general invitation around April on the Forum and see if we can assemble a group – last time we had an official guide (who was pre-booked and spoke English) and stayed in the Museum from opening to closing time – they had to throw us out in the end! I took a step ladder which was permitted; the staff even arranged the lighting to suit our requirements for photography.
My Swedish-speaking talents were hardly required, as it turned out!
I have no information about a third hall, except rumours, but it is also rumoured that the remains of the shot-down Baltic Sea DC-3 could end up in the Museum.

Nice pictures, thanks for posting!

BTW, I think I read somewhere that the Swedish Air Force museum will expand with a third display hall in 2007. Does anyone know for sure?

A good introduction to Swedish military aviation is Lars Henriksson’s web site, which can be found here: http://www.avrosys.nu/aircraft/index.htm

Papa Lima, would it be ok if Swedish forumites joined in as well?

Regards,

Jan

SAAB 210

The “Baby Draken” now resides in the RSwAF Museum at Linköping, which has a marvellous collection.
I would be prepared to arrange another trip there when the weather improves (after May!). Ryanair does cheap flights to Gothenburg occasionally, and my last visit with friends from the Forum was a great success, or at least so they told me!
