Land Girls was repeated on C4 yesterday. Not a bad film considering at the time I fancied the pants off Anna Friel AND Rachel Weisz 😀
The Spitfire sequence is quite good. Which airframe and which pilot please?

Yes it was made to look like one to match Black 6 (painted as Red 3) which was used for the flying scenes. Also explains the hint of desert scheme.

Looks like a G series at a glance…

What an interesting mish-mash of parts! It looked alright for its brief moment before being exploded though!
I heard something to the effect of it having Jet Provost wings, I think t6flyer mentioned it in another thread somewhere.
I wonder if anyone has a copy of FP or AM that features the photographs/knows which editions included them?

I think you may find the fuselage was painted of ply or similar but it had a hurricane tailwheel, Bf109 or 110 VDM and Spitfire undercarriage from what I recall, there were a fair few photos I remember seeing somewhere maybe a magazine like FP or AM but dont recall the wings but possibly off a JP

Nearly two decades on, having just watched the Land Girls film (currently on Britbox) I recalled that someone had posted about the replica crashed Messerschmitt Bf109 used in the series.
Did anyone ever pinpoint the location/get photographs of it? I expect its long since been scrapped or fallen apart.

Dave,
I’ve PM’d you and will try and find out as much as I can. Have already sent out a few emails tonight (to those who know that sort of thing) and will report back.

Thats all I know……have been over it a few times now. Will try and take a camera next time. Markings are still quite visible on the wings – its just not the sort of thing that you expect to find in Darkest Devon! 🙂

Martin,
I ~am~ in darkest Devon also !
And only 12 miles from Dulverton where filming took place. Can you divulge and/or PM more precise details please ?
😀

… and was the guy on the ‘talking brick’ on the ground. Marvellous film crew to work with and I believe that as a result of listening to sensible suggestions the Spitfire sequence was ten times better than what the story board originally called for.

Well done. It’s a great sequence.
One question from me.
As 434 pops up out of the dip and the farmer character is leaning on his plough handles, were the horses still harnessed to the plough, (they are out of shot) or did they lead them away for fear the aircraft would faze them?

f I find a spare hour in the next couple of weeks I’ll scratch something down here about the aviation sequence production down at Dulverton.
Please do; all too often these reminiscences aren’t captured, and as you may have noticed, there’s an inexhaustible demand for Battle of Britain film equivalents.
Thanks (in advance)

Mark flew ‘434’ wich Charlie ( I believe) flying the 109 sequences because the OFMC Buchon was grounded with maintenance issues as I recollect.
I was tied up with sorting out the CAA permissions and was the guy on the ‘talking brick’ on the ground. Marvellous film crew to work with and I believe that as a result of listening to sensible suggestions the Spitfire sequence was ten times better than what the story board originally called for.
Film credits totally screwed up and I didnt even rate one as the aviation liaison bod. Film producer most apologetic however the film was by now ‘in the can’.

The 109 replica is still there in the field in which it was filmed. Still virtually intact with the elevators and rudder lying next to it. I didnt know anything about it until last Summer when was taken by Auster to go and have a look at the ‘German fighter’.
Surprised that it is still there as I believe quite a few people call Exeter up reporting a crashed aeroplane in a field.

MH434.
Not sure who the pilot of the Spit was, as the flim credits Mark Hanna (and Paul Bonhomme as the pilot of Black 6) I think, but I remember reading on the OFMC website at the time and it said it was Rolf Meum who flew 434 & Charlie Brown Black 6!
Cheers
