As the title says, just curious as to what these guys are doing these days? Are they working on other aircraft now?
I heard a while back they might be working on a Me163 Komet

Russ’s project is I believe a bi-plane as for the book the original publisher wasn’t interested in an updated copy, I must learn Japanese!!!!!! However for pictures this book is far better than the first.
I always thought it was this:

Ian Mason was as good guy he let me see the Tempest TT.5 NV778 at Cardington. My father flew this aircraft at 233OCU Pembrey. I remember Black 6 breaking his leg on a ground run he was pretty cheerful about it.

New to this forum but I worked on Black 6 during it’s Northolt years, though I didn’t get a mention in the book (I haven’t forgotten that Russ baby!).
Okay, I’m Ian Pursey
Pete Hayward is living near Portsmouth, don’t know what he’s doing at the moment
John Elcombe used to live in Harrow
Ian Mason (R.I.P), a most wonderful person and greatly missed.
Russ himself – lost touch. If you’re reading this Russ let me know 🙂
happy times, even though we weren’t wanted at Northolt
Is that new dvd released?

Thanks for the info Fluffy, sorry to here about Ian Mason.
That Jap book looks nice, maybe we will see a newer English one soon?

That picture on the front of the Japanese book also appears on the front of the box of the 1/48th kit of Black 6 issued by Hasegawa – one thing I’ve wondered related to the oddly coloured fabric control sufaces – certainly not 79 – was this post that refinish in water based paints for an advert?

Thanks Fluffy,
That is very sad news about Ian, I didnt know that.
Can you say what Russ’s project is?
What is the point of doing an updated copy in Japanese and not english as well?!
If enough of us write to the publishers and ask do you think they will release an english version as well?!
Cheers, Alan.

Alan
Yes Russ is still involved with aviation, he has a project on the go at the moment something German I believe. Another book was published complete with colour pictures and including the rebuild after the accident and move to Hendon, unfortunately it’s in Japanese ISBN- 499-22800-X.
Sadly Ian is no longer with us he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away before Black6 was moved to Hendon

Is Russ Snadden still involved with aviation in any way?
I still pick up his book now and then for another read, I know the basic facts are well known but it is a pity it was not reprinted with another chapter(s) about the rest of the aircrafts story, sad though the ending was, I bet there is a lot of interesting tales from the time when it was regularly flown.
Is Ian mason still at Duxford in any capacity?
Cheers, Alan.

Not colour but here are some shots of Black6 one with unknown Spit EP??? and as RN228 on 1426Flight at Collyweston from my collection

To thread steal slightly, in the original Black 6 book by Mr Snadden, he mentions colour photos of Black 6 being taken by Popular Science (?) whilst she was RN228.
Wonder if these ever turned up as I’m curious as to her colour scheme whilst in RAF service

It’s my Company that’s releasing it, I’m hoping to release it by the first week in May at the latest although it could be earlier.
