Something called Warplane. Appears to be the history of fighter aircraft through the last century. Anybody know anything about it?

Never watched Foyles war – am I missing something on the Honeysuckle Weeks department?
Depends on what keeps your ship bouyant 😉

Who operates the meteor though?

Sorry about being vague about the runway business… it is Lakenheath I was on about… It is, as Moggy points out, the same strip etc etc – it was unusual as most of the time the flying here is in the 24 direction…
Ollie they did say in the commentary that the Metoer was the last night fighter version flying…

Can’t argue with that. 😀

I will put up with a considerable number of historical errors for the chance to watch the scrummy Honeysuckle Weeks 🙂

I noticed they were building a B.17 base near Hastings – and promptly got glared at at by Mrs DHFan for pointing it out. 🙁

He is so inscrutable that he probably doesn’t know himself.

Incidentally, whats the difference between runway 06 and 24, I presume you are referring to Lakenheath.
Well it’s the same strip of asphalt. Its the direction in which it is being used. If they are taking off or landing towards the West it is 24, if they are taking off, or landing towards the East it is 06.
Numbers derived from the first two digits of an approximate compass heading 240 degrees and 060 degrees respectively
It thought it wasn’t a bad programme last night (having missed the ‘Bomber’ one the previous week.)
Whilst on TV programmes…
ANTI-US BIAS IN FOYLE’S WAR – SHOCK, HORROR!
Anyone notice that the usually moderately historically accurate Foyle’s War now has a gang of US servicemen so dim that they are building a B17 base in Kent or Sussex during 1942?
Is Foyle ever going to tell them where Germany actually is?

Anyone see this weeks?
Iteresting to note that according to the TV progamme BAE SYSTEMS are at “WHARTON”
Not a bad programme and loved the fact that they addressed the Miles M.52’s part in history and the fact we were getting toward the sound barrier before the Americans, handed all the info over and then had the project cancelled. Also noted that the film of “my” aircraft were flying from 06 and not the regular 24 runway… Yes I must get out more…
The merged film at the end of the Meteor which faded to the 262 reproduction made me think it’d be nice to see the two in formation at an airshow…
I agree with you, at first I thought that the 262 colour footage was original and got quite excited , then realised it was the new build on test.
Was interested to see the colour footage of the spitfires in flight, just for once not an out-take of the BoB film, not seen that before, mind you there seemed to be a lot of turbulance that day, though they were also probably trying to fly slowly for the camera ship. Nice to see Eric Brown as well, thought he looked really good for his age.
I presume by the airshow reference it could only be at Leg………………

To be honest I had no idea it was on!

I’ve got a feeling there was some serious ‘finger trouble’ in the main control room at Channel 5 last night. Like playing the wrong videotape!!
It seemed to me that the first part of the programme was the ‘Fighter’ programme from episode one, then there was some frantic button pressing and the first commercial break……
No doubt about then someone said “Don’t worry, just switch the tape to the Bomber programme, no-one will notice”
From the lack of response on this thread, no-one did – shame on us!!!

The start of the programme was messed up – I think it was the start of the fighters episode again initially.
The restoration of Doc is really impressive.
I was annoyed too at the inferrence that the B-17 was the initiator of strategic bombing too…
The dummy bombs could have been concrete filled. Obviously not too heavy as the guy loading the trolley was managing ok on his own…

Well, no comments about last nights addition?
Quite enjoyed it apart from the alleged invention by the B-17 of strategic bombing.
Really loved the live firing of the ball turret and the bombing run by the B-25 with a veteran operating the Norden bomb sight was magic, was a bit concerned about the nearness of the farmhouse below though, what were those dummy bombs made of, I missed a few bits of that as I was cooking tea.
I didn’t realise that the B-29 was supposed to have been depressurised when on it’s attack run, a truly magnificent a/c, I was lucky enough to have been at Duxford when Hawg Wild landed for the last time.
Any comments please.

I can output it to a DVD in broadcast format
(Though of course I can only do this for my own use, as anything else would be a breach of copyright)

Is that portable to a avi/wmv file?
By: Moggy C - 5th January 2006 at 13:53
You can probably download a vid of it if so wish. Mail me to discuss.
No need, it’s safe on the HDD of my PVR
