A.M. Bombing Teacher Mk.III
Does anyone have any information that they could share about this item? Possibly some photos of it in use?
It is my understanding that there is more to this item than what is shown in my photos. I believe a bomb sight was somehow fitted above the magnification lens and a map scrolled beneath to depict the target area. We do have the scrolls to which the maps were fitted, but I have not included them in my photos.
Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Air Ministry Specification G.392
I find I have this specification in my collection, dated September 1936
Specification for Bombing Teacher Mk III.
Unfortunately it doesn’t include the drawings, thou all the 61 drawings required are listed.
I also have descriptive and instructional notes on the bombing teacher.
It is suggested that these notes are to be used before the information is formally embodied in a printed Air Publication. Since I acquired these documents in Australia, it most likely is referring to an AAP.
These notes include 18 pages without diagrams as to how to install and use
Is there any specific information anyone would like to know?

Richard, thanks for the link to the photo and I will also have to check out the AiX forum.

This is not the same as the machinery we have at the museum.
The pieces at Nanton seem to be for something much larger.

Thanks for your email Peter.
Does anyone have any pictures of the bomber trainer buildings that they could post?

I may be wrong but I reckon it is the vital piece of equipment used in the standard AML Bombing Trainer building found on the dispersed Instructional Site of many WW2 RAF OTU airfields. Quite a few of these distinctive 2-storey buildings survive but I know of none with their original equipment still fitted. I think the moving map at Old Warden is post-war (possibly from Thurleigh/Bedford) but the Museum of Flight at East Fortune did have a large original ex AML BT moving map which I saw in store there in the 1980s. Maybe they still have it?

Sorry Ollie,
I have no idea if this is the same type that Shuttleworth has. My internet searches haven’t found anything and don’t know where another might exist.
Peter, do you have any pictures?

I know you are, but i was just asking if this is the same type of machine that the Shuttleworth collection has a part of a map for.
By: turretboy - 30th December 2005 at 02:36
I am located in Canada, no affiliation with the Shuttleworth collection.

Would this be anything to do with the map section that the Shuttleworth collection has?
